Many students ask what type of kneeboard is best for their iPad mini or similarly sized Android 7 to 8 inch Android tablets. Below are a few of the options I have used.
Crystal Pilot 3-in-1 Kneeboard Clipboard
Crystal Pilot Kneeboard iPad Holder
The Crystal Pilot comes in a version that fits the iPad mini 1-4 and one for an iPad mini 5. I like that it has a iPad mini case that can be removed from the it to carry your iPad outside of the cockpit. It has multiple removable velcro pockets/accessories for items like pins and batteries. The clipboard can sit in an inner pocket behind the iPad, although I added some industrial velcro to my clipboard and to the iPad case to allow it to be attached with the iPad cover closed. It is made of nylon so it does not looks a “fancy” as some of the leather folio options, and the velco straps can be a bit confusing when you first set it up. That said, it is a great budget option, particularly given that it includes a removable iPad case and a VFR/IFR reference card. It sells for around $65.
